You realize what these Democrats are doing, right?
They are harvesting sound bites for November, that’s all. They know they won’t be able to remove Pres. Trump before then, so they hope to damage him between now and then politically.
The Democrats also want to cast aspersions towards potentially vulnerable Republicans in the Senate for the 2020 elections. That’s why they’re spouting “coverup.” They want to say that Republican senators covered up Pres. Trump’s “crimes” and kept a criminal President in office.

What we see in the Senate is not a “trial” in the traditional sense. In an actual trial, a jury cannot override the decision of the judge – he /she is the lawgiver, and the jury is bound to accept his /her rulings on the law (this does not mean the jury cannot invoke “nullification” by acquitting a defendant irrespective of the evidence, and such acquittal [in a criminal matter] is not subject to judicial review).
Additionally, I don’t think anyone can discern what the standard of proof is in this matter: Beyond a reasonable doubt? Clear and convincing? Preponderance? Or perhaps mere “reasonable suspicion?”
This is a purely political exercise, in part due to the left’s (and the swamp’s) hatred of Pres. Trump – and us, the American voter – and in part revenge for the impeachment of the reprobate William Jefferson Blythe Clinton.
The Dems did not hold a vote on impeachment. They issued subpoenas without holding a vote on articles. They withdrew warrants they had already issued. They didn’t do their jobs. A desperate move here, and it should not be tolerated.

Remember when the Democrats’ excuse was that it was so urgent that Donald Trump be removed from office because he was such a threat to our national security, they didn’t have time to let the court decides on questions of Executive Privilege to compel testimony (the way all such disputes are settled) saying they had “overwhelming evidence” to convict the President in the Senate. Then they sat on the “Articles of Impeachment” for a month. Their “overwhelming evidence” was overwhelming desire, hubris, and mendacity.
Chief Justice John Roberts would be well advised to either rule that witnesses that were not on a final witness list (as in any trial) cannot be called, or he should rule that said decision is purely within the power of the Senate, which has the sole authority to try impeachments, and the power to make its own chamber’s rules.
Schiff argued on the Senate floor that House Democrats couldn’t possibly be expected to prove their case without additional witnesses. Before, we were told their case was “overwhelming” and “the facts are indisputable.” Sorry, but this posturing is so transparent. This House of cards is collapsing. Quickly.

The Senate has the right and responsibility to determine what this process will look like, not the House and not the figurehead. I guess if they didn’t have any ridiculous ideas, they wouldn’t have any ideas at all.
At this time, I have to say enough is enough. This candidate, then President-Elect, and finally, President has been investigated enough. The man has lived under a microscope for four years, and nothing has been found. Not many if any members of the House or Senate could survive this level of scrutiny. I hope the Chief Justice puts a stake in this and ends it.
