Newsweek Terminates Journalist Who Misled Readers About Trump’s Holiday Plans

By Wayne Dupree | December 2, 2019

Can you imagine if all reporters that wrote “speculative” news about Pres. Trump was fired? Places like CNN and the NY Times would be ghost towns and the media would finally have credibility.

Newsweek fired Jessica Kwong, a supposed journalist who thought she would dial it in during the holidays but writing a hit piece solely to make Trump appear lazy and uncaring about his job and the country in general? But she got it wrong big time and had to retract her story which alerted her bosses and eventually got her canned.

What’s strange about the firing is that “Newsweek” is a leftist propaganda tabloid and they don’t practice journalism, but I digress. Kwong’s primary job was supposed to be on top of Trump’s White House actions but she thought she could sleep in with what was basically a hit piece.

The Newsweek reporter who published an inaccurate story about President Trump’s Thanksgiving Day plans has been fired. The outlet’s original story claimed the president only planned on tweeting and golfing during his holiday break, neglecting to mention his trip to Afghanistan.

Newsweek’s Jessica Kwong, whose Twitter handle identifies her as a political reporter “covering Trump administration and family,” initially published the article Thursday morning, before the president’s trip to Afghanistan was announced publicly. The story’s initial headline was, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more.”

“Newsweek investigated the failures that led to the publication of the inaccurate report that President Trump spent Thanksgiving tweeting and golfing rather than visiting troops in Afghanistan,” a Newsweek representative told the Washington Examiner. “The story has been corrected, and the journalist responsible has been terminated. We will continue to review our processes and, if required, take further action.” [Washington Examiner [7]]

The “Reporter” was fired but why not the Editor? A good editor would never have let a story like that get posted without making sure it was true.
And once again, Newsweek fired a reporter? I have to give them a little credit for that because it’s something that no other media outlet would have done. They would have just stealth deleted it and doubled down on the stupid.

Kwong isn’t an exception. Her “mistake” is the mode of operation for journalists. They approach a subject with preconceived notions or minds made up and will try to look for details that confirm their position. We saw this with Smollett, Convington kids, Kavanaugh, etc.

This woman likely bought into every resistance narrative about Trump and naturally thought he would be tweeting and golfing on Thanksgiving. She was a bit more careless than your typical resistance reporter who would have given a courtesy look at the WH travel log or press release. Eventually, someone in their rank would be careless and the mask would slip.

Somehow, I suspect Kwong wasn’t really fired. She was basically transferring to another leftist machine, probably the New York Times, so they said she was fired to attempt to sort-of save face.

But of course, as such a leftist propaganda rag, what will it do to help them save face anyway.
