The country star took to Twitter where he wrote: “What an honor to sit [with] The First Lady at the White House,” tweeted Cyrus on Tuesday. “@FLOTUS Your sincerity was truly inspiring. You/your team were so engaged to Channing’s grieving father & brother & brought ideas/strategy to make the world a safer better place for the youth in America.”

Cyrus also used the hashtag #JusticeForChanning 16-year-old Channing Smith. Channing committed suicide in September after personal and very private messages of his were spread around school.

When he heard about what happened to Channing, Cyrus performed at a memorial service for him.

Melania also responded to the meeting with Cyrus and Channing’s family in a Tweet.

“Highlighting online safety is one of my #BeBest priorities. Yesterday, @billyraycyrus introduced me to the Smith family to hear about the tragic loss of their loved one from cyberbullying. Teaching positive online behaviors can ensure a safer future for our children”

Country star Billy Ray Cyrus and relatives of Channing Smith met Monday with first lady Melania Trump at the White House to discuss cyber bullying and online safety.

Smith, a 16-year-old from Manchester, Tenn., died by suicide Sept. 22. after sexually suggestive messages between himself and another boy were leaked on social media by high school classmates, according to family members.

The Coffee County story gained international attention, with Joshua Smith, brother to Channing Smith, calling for justice in his death. Local prosecutors have not filed charges against those the family say were involved in leaking Channing Smith’s intimate conversation.

Learning of Channing Smith’s death on local news, Cyrus contacted the Smith family and performed Sept. 29 at a memorial for the high school student in Manchester.

Cyrus’ team aided in organizing the White House meeting, which saw Cyrus, Joshua Smith and David Smith, Channing Smith’s father, sit for more than an hour with the first lady. [Tennesean]
