I recall the joyous days that being American meant working hard. The old adage of if you work hard you can have the American dream rung true.

But times are a changin’. I recently read an article about a middle school in Rhode Island who has “concerns about the “exclusive nature” of the annual honors night at Archie R. Cole Middle School, school officials have decided to scrap the tradition.” When did American culture become so sensitive? We can’t say Merry Christmas because we may offend someone from another culture. Now we cannot celebrate our children’s success in school when they over achieve. We are creating a culture that average is not only acceptable but encouraged at every turn. I mean why excel when you can stick your hand out and get rewarded anyway? How unfortunate for our country.
